Get to Know the Face Behind Vera Wellness

Hi, I’m Meka — the face behind Vera Wellness.

Vera Wellness was built from a belief that therapy should feel human.

Not cold or clinical. Not like you have to show up with the right words, know exactly what’s wrong, or fit your experiences neatly into a box. I believe some of the most meaningful work happens when we feel safe enough to be honest, curious, messy, uncertain, and fully ourselves.

That belief comes not only from my work as a therapist, but from my own experiences of being human.

Therapy, to me, is relational.

Of course, tools and strategies matter. There is a place for learning how to regulate your nervous system, challenge a thought, set a boundary, communicate differently, or cope with something painful.

But I believe healing also happens through relationship. It happens when you can say something you have been afraid to say and realize the person across from you isn't judging you.

When someone notices the pattern beneath the pattern. When we can be curious about why a part of you reacts the way it does instead of immediately trying to get rid of it. When you don't have to convince someone that your experience was painful just because it may have looked different from the outside.

And sometimes, it happens through humour, honesty, a deep breath, or a very human moment between two people.

That is the kind of space I wanted Vera Wellness to be.

I know what it’s like to sit on the other side.

My own path has included grief and loss, navigating complex family dynamics, and experiences with unhealthy relationships. For a long time, I found myself wanting to understand the why behind how we become who we are.

Why do certain experiences stay with us? Why can we understand something logically and still feel stuck in the same patterns? Why do we become the peacekeeper, the overthinker, the caretaker, the one who holds everything together, and then struggle to know what we actually need?

That curiosity eventually became something much deeper: a desire to understand root causes rather than simply manage what was showing up on the surface.

And part of that journey meant going to therapy myself.

I remember the vulnerability of sitting down with a therapist for the first time. The nervousness. Wondering where to start and how much to say. Knowing that, from the outside, I probably appeared completely fine while internally, things felt much more complicated. I also learned what it was like to leave therapy feeling like I needed more.

More depth. More connection. More understanding of where my patterns came from. More than coping strategies without exploring the experiences underneath them.

Those experiences have shaped the therapist I am today.
